India is on the brink of a significant energy and infrastructure revolution. Over the past four to five years, the country's renewable energy sector has expanded rapidly due to supportive government policies that have encouraged both domestic and international investors to engage in this field.
Currently, energy usage per capita is only about 20-30 percent of the global average. However, demand is expected to increase faster than in any other country over the next two decades.
By 2030, India is set to surpass the EU to become the world's third-largest energy consumer. This presents both significant challenges and opportunities.
The Indian government estimates that up to $250 billion will be needed for 'Green CAPEX'—technologies that facilitate the transition to clean energy—from 2023 to 2030. Without substantial changes to its energy mix, particularly through increased investment in renewable energy sources, India will face challenges in meeting the growing demand for energy generation while also fulfilling its commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The ongoing development of energy-efficient systems and machines is crucial, especially in Sweden and India, to make manufacturing processes more environmentally friendly.
These initiatives encourage energy conservation and the transition to renewable sources for cleaner, more secure, and more efficient energy. Fortunately, effective solutions are already available on the market that can significantly benefit the environment and enhance profitability. The main challenge lies in convincing factories to make the necessary investments.

The critical development of energy-smart systems and machines is constantly ongoing - not least in Sweden and India - to make manufacturing processes even more environmentally friendly.
There is already sufficient equipment available on the market that can lead to significant environmental benefits and increased profitability; the challenge lies in encouraging factories to make the necessary investments.
A few years ago, WWF and GloFin Advisory introduced a concept called “The Cleantech Programme.” This initiative aims to serve as a tool for multinational companies with suppliers in India, helping to streamline the investment and decision-making processes within their supply chains. In 2019, H&M in India became a participant in the Programme to conduct a pilot study.
Reducing CO2 emissions is a highly prioritized goal, and solar heating is one of the most efficient technologies for achieving this.
Achieving India’s goals while still substantially growing its energy production to fuel a rapidly developing country will require concurrent scaling up of the use of renewable sources like solar. Efficiency gains will play a major role.
India’s reliance on thermal energy generation is significantly higher than its global peers, accounting for about 85 percent of energy generation versus a global average closer to 60 percent.
